Why Is This Happening?

Information Security has identified many credible sources that indicate malicious actors are focusing their efforts to spread malicious links/attachments through social media platforms. If you are using a Methodist-owned device and one of these links/attachments is clicked, the organization's network could be exposed to malware leading to a breach.

As we increase our current security posture, it's imperative that we take actions to safeguard our employees and the organization.

When and What Will Be Included?

Beginning Dec. 15, 2020, several social media platforms will be blocked. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • TikTok
  • Snapchat

Access to these sites will NOT be blocked if the individual uses their personal device while connected to the GuestCare Wi-Fi.

What Will Be Excluded?

LinkedIn and YouTube will be excluded from the block, as these platforms have a general business justification and use for the organization at large.

What to Expect

If you are attempting to access one of these sites on a Methodist-owned device, a page will appear indicating that the site is blocked.

If you believe your department should have access to the site, have your vice president submit a request via the IT Service Portal indicating the business justification. If approved, an exception will be created to allow access.

If you have questions/concerns, please reach out to the Information Security Department at @email.
