For the sixth year in a row, Methodist Health System has been honored with the Nebraska Safest Companies award with distinction by the National Safety Council. It’s the NSC’s highest award.

This award is for having a Labor Workers Disability Index (LWDI) 50 percent better than the industry standard for General Medical Surgical Hospitals, established by the US Department of Labor. The LWDI score for all General Medical Surgical Hospitals is 5.9, and Methodist scored 1.83 for 2017. Safest Company is based on a score of 50 percent than industry LWDI.

The award is also based on Methodist’s rate for Days Away Restricted or Transfer (DART). In this category, the score for all General Medical Surgical Hospitals is 2.3, while our score was .48 for 2017. Safest Company is based on a score of 50 percent than industry DART.

Methodist’s award is with distinction because we maintained a better than 50 percent rate in both LWDI and DART.

With the technical perspective out of the way, the real reason Methodist achieved this award for the last six years is the tremendous effort put forth by staff across the health system to do their work safely! It’s extremely tough to achieve since we have an industry that has the tendency to react to the needs of our fellow human beings, patients and visitors, putting ourselves in harm’s way doing so. Leaders have made the effort to train staff to provide The Meaning of Care while minimizing injury. It is a combination of leadership and employee engagement to work safely which allowed us achieve this honor. Thank you all for your effort!
