Nebraska Methodist College Unveils State-of-the-Art Mobile Clinic with Grand Opening: November 10

Published: Nov. 8, 2016

On Thursday, November 10, a longtime fixture of the community will receive an upgrade that has been in the works for years -- and members of the Methodist family are invited to the debut.

Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) and the Cosmopolitan Club’s Cornbelt Diabetes Connection will host the public’s first look at the all-new Mobile Diabetes Center (MDC). The grand opening event will take place on NMC’s Josie Harper Campus at 4 p.m. with a ceremony that features a ribbon-cutting and exclusive tours of the state-of-the-art mobile facility led by the same nursing students who conduct screening services out in the field.

More than a mere remodel, this latest iteration of the MDC is a brand new vehicle built from the ground up with community healthcare in mind.

“I’m extraordinarily proud of the work that’s been done to modernize the MDC,” said Jillian Sisson, dean of Professional Development and Community Partnerships at NMC. “The technologies we have in place will allow us to better serve those portions of the population that could most benefit from the testing and educational offerings we provide. With this new clinic, we finally have a mobile unit suited to the skills and compassion that are the signature of any student who receives a Nebraska Methodist College education.”

The Mobile Diabetes Center includes a number of features new to the MDC as well as upgrades to those services previously available:

  • Diabetes screenings
  • Health education
  • Foot care
  • Lead testing
  • Wellness assessments
  • Flu vaccinations
  • Blood pressure
  • Vision check
  • And more

All services are available to both children and adults. Spanish-language service is also available. Test results remain confidential and all patients receive referrals for follow-up care at welcoming places in the community.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the unit, attendees are invited to an open house at the latest expansion to the NMC campus: the new 501 Center located at 501 N. 87th St. on the corner of 87th and Dodge.
