Stop the Bleed

In an emergency, minutes count. Severe hemorrhaging can lead to death in as little as five minutes, but knowing when and how to use a tourniquet can save lives.

Stop the Bleed is a national program that teaches appropriate tourniquet use and bleeding control. Created by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma (ACS COT), the courses teach skills that can mean the difference between life and death during active shooter events, car accidents or even accidents at home.

Learn how to apply direct pressure, pack a wound with gauze and apply a tourniquet the proper way to control bleeding in an emergency situation. This class is for nonclinical staff members and clinical staff members who would like a refresher on bleeding control measures.

Stop the Bleed courses are offered monthly at Nebraska Methodist College and are free to all Methodist employees. (Note: Check with your supervisor to see if this is a required course to potentially be paid for taking it.) The cost is $20 per course for all other registrants. Each course runs about one hour.
