The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.

This recognition is presented regularly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred and had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.

"Taylor’s patient had NPH insulin ordered, and the pen was out. She requested a new pen, and the wrong insulin pen was delivered. Taylor first noticed that the old pen was gray and green, and the new one was all blue. The label to scan had the NPH insulin order on it, but the blue pen ended up being insulin aspart 70/30 and not NPH. Thankfully, Taylor called the pharmacy right away to recheck the label and the pen before giving it to the patient.”

Congratulations, Taylor. Thank you for your commitment to keeping our patients and staff safe!
