The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.

This recognition is presented regularly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred and had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.

Sarah Houser
Registered Nurse, Emergency Department
Methodist Fremont Health

"Sarah recognized that a patient’s medication rate – the rate that the medication was to be infused – was inaccurate. She took steps to contact the pharmacy and advise of her findings. Her actions ensured that the correct rate/dose was identified and administered to the patient. Sarah’s attention to detail and reporting of the concern allowed for current processes to be reviewed and built upon to ensure safe patient care is provided."

Congratulations, Sarah, and thank you for your commitment to keeping our patients and staff safe!
