Amy Parr, BSN, RN, from the Short Stay Unit at Methodist Hospital, was honored at a recognition ceremony on October 11 as the October DAISY Award winner for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women's Hospital.

Amy was nominated for the honor by a staff member who describes Amy as "a role model employee, outstanding person and someone who is selfless, kind and passionate about her profession."

The nominator cited a poignant example of Amy's selfless caring. While on her way to work one Monday morning, Amy happened upon the scene of a terrible accident. A car had struck down a young woman who was walking her dog, critically injuring the woman. Without hesitation, Amy immediately started CPR until paramedics arrived.

Later, the public learned that the injured woman was Cheyla Pettett, a new member of the Methodist Health System family who had just moved to Omaha to pursue her Master's in Occupational Therapy at Nebraska Methodist College. Cheyla's fiance and family were en route to Omaha at the time of the accident.

Cheyla made it to the hospital. Tragically, she passed away the next day. Her family and fiance were there at her bedside.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Amy's act of bravery and courage that day bought a family and fiance time to say goodbye," wrote the nominator. "I heard someone refer to Amy as 'an angel in grey' and that is just what she is! Methodist Hospital and Short Stay Unit are fortunate to have this angel on their side!"
