Roger Hertz Receives Nebraska Health Information Initiative's 2015 Visionary Award

Published: Sept. 15, 2015

Roger Hertz, former MHS Chief Information Officer, was recently honored for his groundbreaking  leadership and support of the Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII) during his tenure at Methodist.

Roger is shown, at right, accepting the  2015 NeHII Health IT Visionary Award from Kevin Conway, vice president of the NeHII board.

Roger was instrumental in the development and growth of NeHII, a web-based health information exchange for the sharing of patients' health information among providers and health care facilities statewide to improve patient safety and care delivery.

NeHII, originally piloted at Methodist Hospital and other Omaha health providers in May 2009, utilizes a specialized software and infrastructure to provide for the safe, secure, fast and effective exchange of electronic medical records by doctors, hospitals and insurance companies. Currently there are more than 1,400 hospitals, medical clinics, physicians, pharmacists, and various healthcare professionals participating across Nebraska. NeHII will ultimately become part of the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) to improve the level of health care for Nebraska and  the nation as a whole.

Our congratulations go to Roger, and to the past and present members of the MHS IT team, for their support of NeHII and other innovative health IT solutions.
